Pacific Northwest Juggling Convention 2009

The staff wanted to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who attended and performed at our event!

We will be tallying all the sales and donations and expenditures this thursday, with hopes that we may have gotten close to breaking even... based on that, and how crazy we are, we will determine if and when we could do our next convention. :)

We have some shirts left over for sale... 2 smalls, 1 medium, and several large and x-large. The prices per shirt are $10 if you pick them up directly from us, $12 if you want them dropped off somewhere in Corvallis/Albany/Philomath, and $15 mailed anywhere in the USA. I'll post a photo and/or list of colors remaining soon.

Driving to the Convention (McA Fieldhouse)

From the North via Hwy 99W (magenta line):
- Take 99W south into town (becomes 4th St).
- Turn right on SW Western Blvd (first light after you pass the Safeway and Shell station).
- Turn right on SW 15th St at the light.

From the South via Hwy 99W (purple line):
- Take 99W north into town (becomes 3rd St).
- Stay in left lane, then merge into 'new' third left lane after going under the overpass (Hwy 34/20).
- Turn left at the first light, onto SW Western Blvd.
- Turn right onto SW 15th St at the light.

From I-5, option 1 (cyan line):
- Take exit 228.
- Head west 9.8mi
- Turn left at the Hwy34 bypass, just before the bridges into town.
- Turn right onto SW 15th St at the light.
- Continue about 0.25mi north, crossing the railroad tracks.

From I-5, option 2 (orange line):
- Take exit 228.
- Head west ~10mi into town (turns into NW Harrison Blvd when you cross the river).
- Turn left onto NW 14th St (look for the big yellow crosswalk signs).
- Continue south thru next two lights (NW 14th St magically becomes SW 15th St between the lights).

From the Coast via Philomath (red line):
- Head east on Hwy 34/20
- Turn left onto SW 15th St at the light
- Continue about 0.25mi north, crossing the railroad tracks.

Parking (green circle) will be on the east side of street mostly, with the back entrance to the Convention on the west side in the little parking lot near the marked pedestrian crossing. If you turn (east) down SW Washington Way along the tracks, just before the baseball field is a narrow and long parking lot on the east side of the building as well.

24 Hour Gym Space

The 2009 PNWJC Committee is proud to announce there will be 24 Hour Gym Space. This means you can stay up all night juggling.

This also means you don't need to find a hotel! Just bring warm clothes and a warm sleeping bag for when you want to get some sleep. The floor is carpeted and cushioned too.

But remember, it gets very cold at night in March. If you don't believe me, just check out weather.com's Average Weather for Corvallis. The temperature range is 38-56 degrees Fahrenheit. The facility which we are using for the gym, McAlexander Fieldhouse, is not heated... ever.

UPDATE: We have just been told that the maintenance guys will be turning on the heat for the weekend of the convention! So, in theory, it should be reasonably warm for us! woohoo! --Crizzly

Thanks for your input everyone! The last poll's results were:

The PNWJC staff voted on the top two choices, and #4a [on left] is the winner!

The shirt colors are going to be awesome - we're getting a total mix of colors out there, so every shirt will be practically unique... as a result, you should buy your shirts early to get first pick! :)

Big Trick Competition & Juggling Games

We will be holding a Big Trick Competition in the gym on Sunday at noon immediately after the Raffle. In the spirit of the XJuggling competition and the World Juggling Federation, we will be hosting an informal competition to see who can pull off the most amazing juggling trick. Be sure to bring your video cameras!

Immediately following the Big Trick, we will be having Juggling Games. This will include all the favorites such as Simon Says, three quarter juggling, five nickel (or quarter) jugging, etc... We even have prizes for the games!

Unicyling at the PNWJC

Corvallis boasts a high per capita ratio of unicyclists. Join us at the convention for Unicycle workshops (equipment provided but please bring a helmet and sturdy shoes; Please fill out this waiver prior to unicycling at our event), a One Wheel Wonders formation demonstration, and a Unicycle Hockey scrimmage.

The PNWJC is pleased to announce that Becky Banning will be attending!

Becky is 17, has been unicycling for 9 years and is part of the Panther Pride Unicycle Team in North Bend, WA. She has been to 6 North American Championships and 2 Internationals. She is the reigning North American Women's Freestyle Champion, recently winning 5 gold medals in artistic unicycling.

Becky will be helping with the unicycle workshops, giving demonstrations of some amazing skills and tricks. She is also performing in the public show Sat. night. If you are a unicyclists, don't miss this opportunity to see this amazing performer.

Renegade Show

NOTE: this will be an "indoor, but outside style" show, so while the astroturf is nicely padded, you may wish to bring blankets or a chair to sit on. Blankets would give you extra warmth too, if needed (update: the building should be heated for us that weekend).

The Renegade Show typically has a smaller audience than the Public Show. It is a show where anyone brave enough, can volunteer to do a juggling/comedy/alternative act in front of an audience of jugglers/hecklers/alternative people.

The Renegade Show is intended for adult audiences only. Please bring your kids to the Public Show on Saturday night.

Public Show Information

What: There will be featured performances from professional juggling and comedy acts as well as local acts.

When: Saturday March 28, 2009 7:00pm

Where:LaSells-Stewart Center, Oregon State University
(Located an easy half mile walk from the Fieldhouse or you can tour the campus along the way using the Interactive Campus Map)

Cost: FREE!! (all donations gladly accepted!)
This show will be free to the public on a first come, first serve basis (1200 seats).
Note: The 2007 PNWJC Public Show was held in Milam Hall Auditorium which seats 700, and it was filled to capacity.

Convention Site

What you are looking at is the sight of the Pacific Northwest Juggling Convention. This building is called McAlexander Fieldhouse (Google Map). It is located on the campus of Oregon State University. It is a very big building.

The near side is a very smooth cement floor space with two side-by-side basketball courts. The entire floor is painted which gives it that smooth feel and is great for doing 360s.

The far side is a soft, padded astro-turf soccer field that is equal in length and width as the two basketball courts.

There are two entrance/exits of which you can see some light coming through where the doors are in the photo. There are two bathroom/lockerooms, one for women and one for men. They are small but sufficient.

The ceilings are twice as high as the top of the basketball backboard, on the sides of the building. In the center it is much higher.

This facility will be open 24 hours so you can juggle all night!

This is also the location for the Renegade show on Friday, March 27, 2009.
